What is 'The Link'?

The Link Centre is based at Central Primary School and is a community building that was officially opened by Councillor Wayne Daley on 15th November 2019.

The Link was introduced to provide support and opportunities for the parents/carers and families of both Bothal and Central Primary Schools.

We have a dedicated Family Support Worker employed by the ALP and we are running a number of courses and sessions that are tailored to meet the needs of our families.

We have developed a strategic plan for the future and have a clear vision of how we will further develop growing opportunities for our families in Ashington.

Please read on to find further information about our journey and what we have to offer.

Where did our journey start?

Thrive was introduced across the ALPTrust to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health of our pupils.

We then looked at how can we support families and carers, so that they are more able to support their children with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.

We employed a Family Support Worker who is in great demand and we knew we would have to offer more and make it sustainable.

What we have to offer now and in the future...

•Drop in sessions at least 4 mornings per week.

•Thrive/Positive parenting and Cognitive behavior strategy to be delivered weekly on a Wednesday mornings.

•Stand alone sessions on healthy eating, healthy living, head lice, managing on a budget, life skills, craft sessions, parent and children sessions, sewing sessions and keep fit etc

•Delivering important information regarding safeguarding, child protection and issues relevant to the community.

•School staff will deliver sessions on how to support a child’s learning at home in Numeracy and Literacy.

•Support for parents/carers to return to work and gain qualifications through courses offered within The Link.
